Electronics reliability assessment of future power fusion machines: Neutron interaction analysis in bulk silicon

The interactions of high energy neutrons produced in D-D and D-T nuclear fusion reactions with natural silicon have been investigated through direct calculation using cross section libraries, MCNP6 Geant4 numerical simulations. From the systematic simulation particle tracking 5×108 incident on a 1 cm2×20 μm bulk target, we provide detailed analysis all (elastic, inelastic, nonelastic) per type reacting isotope an exhaustive classification neutron-induced secondary products as function their type, energy, linear transfer range silicon. Implications for reliability electronics future power machines are discussed based these first evaluations.
